Kansas Test Overview

The Kansas AEC English Proficiency Test or "Kansas Test" was developed by the Applied English Center at the University of Kansas and is used by American University through a special agreement.

Like other tests of English proficiency, the Kansas Test is divided into several subsections that evaluate key areas of academic English, including listening and reading comprehension as well as several types of academic writing.

The Kansas Test is unique in that it provides within-skill comparisons for each language skill area. This allows score users to get a full picture of the applicant's language proficiency in different types of academic writing, reading and listening. For more information, see the Example Kansas Test Score Report.
