Recommendation: Recommended with reservations
Teacher Planet is a Web site that host links to other Web sites for teaching aids and is organized by a group of teachers. Visiting the link ‘About us’ – located on the right-hand column a third of the way down the page – the reader can discover who the concept used to build Teacher Planet. The homepage is full of links -- twenty in all -- that teachers for ESL and EFL can use for ideas and content.
Each link provides a simple description. Here is an example of one link and its description:
Worksheets for Teachers: Your complete guide to FREE online worksheets for K-12 Educators. Find: Worksheets, Printables, Units, Theme Pages, Crosswords, Puzzles, Workbooks, Awards, Certificates, Diplomas and more--We list FREE materials for Teachers.
The website also has many ads some of which are related to teaching English.
It is my recommendation that teachers of TESOL visit Teacher Planet for ideas and content; however the site does not provide you with which principles to base your teaching techniques on. At the top of the page the main links are positioned horizontally across the page. These links take you to teaching content.
Here are some of the links providing content for teachers:
o Lesson Plans for Teachers
o Rubrics for Teachers
o Theme Units
One of the sites requires membership before content is listed:
The links on the left-hand side of the homepage are redundant to those that run across the top of the page. A lot of the redundancy makes for a busy page. This somehow detracts from the page’s credibility. However, many of the pages that you are able to link to are valid in regards to content: there are usable teaching material and ideas. Some links that you visit are broken and a page-404-error appears. Interested parties can also sign up for the site's newsletter. In summary, this site appears offers useful links for TESOL teachers. While there are a lot of links that provide ideas, not every link has a ready-to-go lesson plan sitting there waiting, some investigation is required.
