TESDA-ISABELA CALIBRATES COMPETENCY ASSESSORS

In order to improve the quality of TVET Assessment and Certification in the province, the Provincial Office of TESDA Isabela conducted a learning session o Competency Assessment Calibration/Moderation on May 5, 2022 at TESDA Isabela School of Arts and Trades, City of Ilagan, Isabela.

The calibration was attended by ninety-three (93) assessors of different qualifications and assessment centers n the province. Om his message, TESDA Regional Director Archie Grande, emphasized the importance of the said calibration in maintaining the integrity and quality of TVET Assessment and Certification in the province. he further said that this calibration is significant for all the competency as-sessors for they play a crucial role in ensuring quality TVET Assessment.

Dir. Vilma Cabrera was also pre-sent during the event and said that the calibration is very good endeavor when it comes to quality conduct of competency assess-ment.

“We should have a common un-derstanding on how to conduct assessment and certification be-cause these are the crucial parts of TVET.”, she added.

The overview of the program and status of competency assessors in the province was presented by Sir Armando Daquioag, Sr. TESD Spe-cialist and Assessment and Certifi-cation Focal of TESDA PO Isabela.

He also reiterated the importance of the program to the participants for this will become their basis in conducting assessment. Ma’am Tschaine R. Balisi, Supervising TESD Specialist and Assessment and Certification Focal of TESDA R02 led the discussion on Accreditation of Assessors with overview in Industry Work Experience Re-quired (IWER) and conduct of assessment with updates on the common findings during the compliance audits.

Further, Ma’am Balisi, also presented to the group the different guidelines on Assessment and Certification which she said must be strictly followed in the conduct of assessment as well as certification.

After the discussion, the participants were grouped by sector and qualification to discuss their concerns of the assessor’s guide. A presentation of group outputs followed after along with an open forum that raised different concerns of the assessors and assessment centers.

Said concerns were noted by the presiding secretariat and were addressed individually by PD Cabrera and Ma’am Balisi.

After this, Dir. Cabrera led the participants in reciting the Competency Assessor’s Credo which they were asked to sign after. The signed Competency Assessor’s Credo was then submitted to Sir Daquioag.

An awarding of certificates to the attendees of the calibration was also done towards the end of the 1-day program on national compe-tency assessment calibration and moderation.
