May 2014: Hotel School Update

With regret Tenby Development Trust has to announce its plans for creating a hotel school in Tenby have been defeated.

Over the last two years, detailed discussions have involved the universities of Swansea Metropolitan, then Cardiff Metropolitan and finally University of Wales Trinity St David and a considerable effort has been made by members of the Trust, their project partner Fourcroft Hotel and a number of supporting organisations, not least Coop Consultants, Pembrokeshire County Council, Collaborative Communities, Wales Co-operative Centre, Visit Wales and, indeed, the tourism industry itself.

Trustees are frustrated that the concept won much support from so many people and organisations, and the independent feasibility study undertaken endorsed its viability yet it is still unable to proceed. As a matter of record, the funding was not the problem, merely that the universities were unable to accommodate the project in their current strategic plans.

November 2013: New Partner

Tenby Development Trust signed a memorandum of understanding with The University of Wales Trinity St David on the 8th. November 2013.

This replaces the memorandum of understanding with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

March 2013:  External Feasibility Study

The consultancy.coop (www.consultancy.coop) has been commissioned to produce an external feasibility study of the Tenby 5 Star Hotel School project.

 The remit is to:
  • independently review key elements of preparatory work done so far by TDT and provide a view that either endorses or challenges the project’s remit
  • make feasible recommendations as to how the project could be strengthened
  • analyse and determine feasible development options and a way forward for various key project elements (including legal/governance structure, development costs, financial projections, income generation activity, funding sources, student accommodation, risk analysis & likely time scale)
  •  provide a costing for the preferred development option.
The report will be completed in the beginning of May and will provide vital information and insights to the Trusts Board about the future direction of the project.

The Trust is grateful to Collaborative Communities and Pembrokeshire County Council for funding this work.

January 2013:  The  Tenby Hotel School.

  • A major new regeneration project for Tenby
  • Tenby Development Trust and Cardiff Metropolitan University intend to open a top-class training hotel for degree level hospitality management courses.
  • The school will based at the Fourcroft Hotel
