Temple Jacob Membership

TJ Community,
It has been a very exciting year at Temple Jacob. New families have moved to town and joined our community. We have been holding monthly shabbat services. There has been an increase of shabbat observance in our community. We have had our youth take over the state-wide leadership of youth groups and attend activities all over the country. Our grounds have never looked better. Many different members, with many different interests have found ways to make Temple Jacob their own and made it happen. That is what our community is all about.

All of this extra programming and beautiful grounds have put a strain on our budget. While we have strong emergency reserves, our operating expenses are no longer matching our income from dues and donations.

It is time for all of us to pay our annual dues to Temple Jacob. Here are the details. All members of the Temple Jacob community are welcome and encouraged to be members, there are no restrictions on who can be a member. Dues are 1-1.5% of family income on an honor system. Dues can be paid by check and mailed to the address at the bottom of this email. Membership dues should be paid by September 1. For those in town, the annual meeting on Sunday August 28th maybe be the easiest place to take care of this.

For those who have not yet paid their dues this year, here are three reasons for paying dues. 1) You and/or your family attend services, events, the high holidays at Temple Jacob and realize that we all must pay our fair share so that these events can happen. 2) You (even if you don’t live locally) understand the importance of having an open synagogue in the Keweenaw for those that are passing through and for future generations and you realize that if we cannot afford to operate then we cannot continue to exist. 3) You would like to see more or different events at Temple Jacob and realize that we cannot do this without the necessary operating revenue.

Whatever the reason, we hope that you will agree with us that it is important that we each do our part to insure the health, vibrancy, and future of Temple Jacob.

Thank you,
John Gershenson, President
Laura Fiss, Vice-President
Jack Reiss, Treasurer
