Calumet Theatre. Friday 14 March7:30 p.m.
Tickets $15. Box office 337 2610.  Sponsored by TempleJacob with support from a Ravitz grant.

Klezmer-Balkan-Yiddish power trio Yale Strom (violin), Elizabeth Schwartz
(vocals) and Peter Stan (accordion) of supergroup HOT PSTROMI combine their
ethnographic experience and high octane energy to create a memorable evening
of music with "ROMANIA RUMENYE!". One of the world's leading
artist-ethnographers, Yale Strom has been conducting research and collecting
music in Romania since 1981. This concert will combine stories of his
travels, the history of the music and Yiddish songs that focus on the
relationship between Jewish and Roma musicians from the provinces of
Maramures and Moldavia. It was here that the musicians at Jewish weddings
were often Roma while the leader of a Roma band was a Jewish violinist.
Stories, songs and a large dose of improvisation will make for a dazzling
evening of music.
