The TRB Committee on Transportation and Economic Development is a group that sponsors papers, reports, presentations, conferences and workshops to improve understanding of the role of transportation in economic development. The topics focus on macroeconomic effects of transportation infrastructure investments, effects of transportation cost changes on local and regional competitiveness, and methodological issues in defining and measuring effects of transportation investments on economic growth and performance. The committee is also concerned with the economic development effects of varying intermodal and modal investment strategies. The committee consists of approximately 30 formal "members" appointed by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, plus approximately 200 "friends of the committee" who also take part in all aspects of the committee's activities. |
