Many of the TeCoLa telecollaboration exchanges adopt a pedagogical lingua franca approach. According to this approach, the telecollaborating students communicate and interact with each other in their common target language. In the TeCoLa context, this mainly involves English, French, German or Spanish.
In his plenary talk at the 53rd RELC Conference in Singapore, 12 March 2018, Kurt explains the social constructivist underpinnings of using English as a pedagogical lingua franca and addresses the role of intercultural telecollaboration in this context. A video recording can be viewed on Youtube.
