Note about Eclipse: Eclipse provides a whole framework for modeling and code generation. Multiple projects and plugins are involved and it is not easy to find his way from diagram to code generation ! Basically, GMF concern the diagramming part and EMF concern the model part. This page MDT-UML2-Tool-Compatibility shows different plugins based on the UML2 Eclipse framework.
OpenOffice has some UML shapes available. But they needs some refining.
UMLet is still my favourite for quick liberal UML diagramming.

Note also the project : http://webuml.org/.

SQL Tools

I want to reverse engineering an existing database to get an ER diagram. Almost all the tools present a tree to browse the database's objects. Very few present a diagram. Only Oracle do it on a new product.
This is strange, since Eclipse plugin uses diagrams to visually represent SQL requests. So it doesn't look to complicated to link tables on their foreignkey instead of SQL joins.
SchemaSpy is almost doing it, it is just that the result is static HTML, and "WWW SQL designer" do the HTML dynamic, but not the reverse engineering part ! If only they could talk ...

Collaborative online IDE

It should be noted that being a web based IDE alone doesn't make it collaborative !

  • Bespin SkyWriter (Mozilla): Still in Labs. But I like the panel showing other people working on the code.
  • http://www.amyeditor.com/ Looks really good
  • AuroraSDK (GoogleCode) based on GWT and Eclipse. Not "collaborative" !
  • WWWorkspace (GPL) based on Eclipse. Not "collaborative" !
  • E4  (Eclipse) ??
  • Heroku (Rails only)
  • devUnity (Alpha stage ; Python only ?)
  • ECCO (SourceForge) "A web-based IDE inside your browser". Seems to support multiple languages.
  • CodePad (NOT OPEN SOURCE ?) run multiple language. Online compiler/interpreter, and a simple collaboration tool. It's a pastebin that executes code for you.
  • TIDE is a Tiny IDE for JavaScript (not multi user ?)
