Presentations

"Microsoft's Powerpoint and Apple's Keynote are two of the most popular presentation tools for teachers, students, library media specialists and administrators, and much has been written about the positive and negative impacts of these resources on teaching and learning. Powerpoint can be saved as a web document and shared on any webpage. But new web-based tools offer ways to publish and deliver those presentations as well as some new tools for creating presentations--and most are free, can be accessed from home, school, or the classroom, and foster collaboration". (Baumbach & Lee, 2012)

Presentation technologies

Slide shows without narration
Note:
You could use any of these technologies to create a visual presentation and then use a screencast technology to record a narration and present it as an online video.
Narrated slide show presentation tools
Note: Uploading a Keynote or PowerPoint presentation to an online site is NOT a good idea because some people may not have the appropriate software to run your presentation and/or file sizes are usually too large. It is better to turn your presentation into a video and embed or link the video to your online site.

How to turn a narrated presentation into an online video

Solution 1: Keynote or PowerPoint - Run the slideshow on your computer and use a screencasting technology to record it as a video, then link or embed the video on your website.

Solution 2: PowerPoint - Upload your narrated presentation to an online site that will automatically convert your presentation to a video, or use a screencasting tool to record your presentation as a video.
  • AuthorStream (Free online). Present your narrated PowerPoint presentation online as a video & then use the embed code to display your presentation on your website, wiki or blog
  • Knovio - Upload PowerPoint slides and record narration online. Mobile iPad version also available.
