Project-based learning

5 keys to rigorous project-based learning

Project-based learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.(BIE, 2016, ¶1).

Over 40 years of accummulated research indicates that PBL does work and is an effective approach for developing higher-level thinking skills that promote deeper learning and encourage student motivation. Project-based learning employs constructivist/situated learning strategies and the role of the educator is that of a facilitator of learning, rather than an instructional teacher.
