The War of 1812 through Art, Printmaking, and
Poetry

October 2012 has been designated "War of 1812" month by the Federal
Government. In order to focus and learn about this bicentennial event 40
students from the University of Winnipeg Collegiate will be spending the month
learning and researching about this significant event in Canadian History.

As an inspiration and culmination of the month of study, the students will be
creating a poetry/art print that will be presented at an exhibition. The students
will be working with teacher and artist, Monique Martin from Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. Ms. Martin has extensive knowledge of print making and has
presented her work in Canada and Europe. A special feature of this project will
be her printer, which was made in 1812.

Join Monique Martin and University of Winnipeg Collegiate Teacher Jennifer
Janzen as they explore how to teach about the War of 1812 through art,
