24. Promoting Academic Success

Abstract: Good teachers want their students to lead caring, responsible, and successful lives. One of the hallmarks of a successful life by most definitions is academic success. Teachers must never forget – and students should realize – that work is the key to success, academic or otherwise. Work depends upon abilities, motivation, effort, and environment. What follows is a new model of academic success based on a number of psychologically sound strategies that can be used to help promote academic success among students.
