Think about these questions when viewing a political cartoon:

  • What issue is this cartoon about?
  • What is the creator's opinion on this issue?
  • What other opinions could someone else have on this issue?
  • Did this cartoon affect your thinking on this issue?
  • Do you think the cartoon was persuasive? Why or why not? Do it make you consider the issue differently, or reinforce your opinion? If you had no opinion, what do you think about the issue now?
  • What other methods could the author use to make this cartoon more persuasive?

Review the techniques that cartoonists use and write a short essay about how the artist used these techniques in one of the cartoons you analyzed.
