Patient Case: Eczema
Late 40-year-old, suffered from Eczema for many years, he was using topical steroid. He wanted to give TCM a try as he was aware of the local (skin colour may change, permanent stretch marks, bruising, discolouration, thin spidery blood vessels and etc) and systematic (high blood pressure, fluid collection in the legs, bone damage and Cushing's syndrome) side effects.
Eczema is characterized by superficial inflammation of the skin which causes it to become dry, itchy, crusty and develops rash that appears on the face, hands, back of the knees, legs and body. Depending on the skin type, the pigmentation is different. In fair-skinned people, it appears reddish and gradually turns brown. For darker-skinned people, the affected area is visually lighter or darker.

From the picture, the affected areas look red, very dry surface, thickened, and scaly manifestation. Due to his lifestyle and job requirement, he usually sleeps late at night.
After treatment
Several treatments of acupuncture and herbal medication managed to alter his face conditions. He skin had turned soft and regained the smooth texture of natural skin. The redness and itchiness have also abated.
Treating Eczema is never easy, there is a cycle of flaring and subsiding throughout the treatment process. Usually to overcome this illness requires many months of persistence, the duration can stretch up to 18 months or more, subjected to the severity of illness and body constitution.
