根據孔恩(Thomas Kuhn)的說法,當異例(即不符合典範所預期的現象)的出現強迫某個學科社群必須重新思索該領域的基本假設,甚至進而調整基本的價值與方法論時,典範轉移的契機就出現了。幾十年來,新興科技、「兒童」觀念的改變、「童年」定義的變動,以及人們對於全球與當地社群的新觀感,一再為兒童文學帶來新的局面:不僅童書有所改變,人們(包括兒童與成人)與童書之間的互動關係也已經大不相同。這些情況為兒童文學專業人員帶來重新省思研究方法、研究範疇、與研究目的等等的挑戰。

A paradigm shift happens, according to Thomas Kuhn, when agents of change force those within an academic discipline to rethink their fundamental assumptions. In the field of children’s literature, developing technologies, new ways of understanding global and local communities, and changing notions of children and childhood have brought changes to texts for children as well as the ways children and other users interact with them. This, in turn, challenges professionals who work with children’s texts to reconsider their methods, scope, and purpose. The purpose of this conference is to interrogate ways in which the paradigms related to the study and development of children’s literature are shifting.
