All right, this data looks kinda tough
With outliers we know that things can get rough
I need to describe, but I know that to say enough
We must get the measures of spread.

First find the middle, split the data in two,
(Both) Parts equal, in size if not in their skew...
Then two more times, so the data's in four
Because with quartiles, you know, we'll settle the score...

An I-Q-R will take you far,
Using the medians, yes the medians!

An I-Q-R is not bizarre,
If you know medians... you know medians!


Now you know we've got a range, got a sigma as well,
Subtract, square, sum, div-ide, square root, ain't that swell,
With the variance, yeah, as it's foundation,
But that's far too much 'bout standard deviation...

To bring us on track, you could think of a box plot,
Interquartile range, won't take very much thought.
Subtract Q1 from Q3 for the span
Don't forget Q2, it was the median!
