79-Identity Crisis

A few moments passed, then the hand was lowered from Lyn's mouth. As requested, she didn't speak, and didn't turn. More seconds passed. Then Circe's voice came again. "It's alright, no one saw me do that. You can speak, we're safe for now."

"Why?" the blonde said tiredly, figuring that single word nicely summed up all the confusion she now felt.

"I came back because I finally realized the obvious," Circe said, guessing at the question. "Actually, it was telling you about the old command trig that ultimately triggered the memory... a memory that had been buried amid all the other stuff that happened before I fully gained sentience."

"And?" Lyn prompted, deciding one word responses worked for now.

"And I realized we could be heroines here!" the blue haired girl concluded, rubbing her hands. "You see OneMinus Cos wasn't actually '-cos(x) + 1'. She was VERSINE, an old command function, in disguise!"

Lyn rubbed her forehead. "Versine?"

"Versed sine." Circe began pacing in small circles around Lyn. "I suppose I can give you a quick history, so you know what we're up against." She shook her head. "I can't believe I didn't clue in earlier, what with her comments about my arc length, and me knowing where Versine fits in the hair archy..."
