"I was just trying to cheer you up," Lyn said apologetically.

Slope sighed.  "I know. I appreciate it... at least you mean it good-naturedly."

"There you are!" came Reci's voice from behind them. The two girls turned to see him looking out of the hole in the roof. "We're all headed back to Maud's to celebrate ParaB's arrival! The Conics too! Coming?"

Lyn glanced briefly at Slope, who shrugged in response. "We'll be right there," Lyn assured her reciprocal.

"Does Circe seem especially upset by us destroying their residence?" Slope inquired, a bit nervously.

Reci shrugged. "Circe always seems upset. Though I happen to know Hyper was looking for an excuse to redecorate... her latest spin had been to replace the flat roof with a curved dome. But Circe gave her the runaround. She's a ceiling fan."

"Huh. Explains her ability to cool a room," Slope mumbled.

In the end, the Polynomials, Conics, and their friends ended up spending the better part of the afternoon and evening at Maud's bar. ParaB, who retained some memories of Para having been there already, helped the other Conics to fit in, and Maud was more than happy to serve several rounds.
