Welcome to the Home of TAU

Welcome to TAU-Topology at UNISA, the Centre for Research in Topology at the University of South Africa. TAU was established in July 2009 as a Research Centre for Excellence within the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET).

The topology research group is one of the Department of Mathematical Sciences niche research units within which there are three main areas of research in topology. TAU focuses primarily on research incorporating the following themes:

  • Pointfree Topology
  • Asymmetric Topology
  • Category theory and its applications to Algebra

We are always willing to engage in collaborative research endeavours within the framework of our focus areas. We have various internal funding opportunities that supports local and international collaboration:

  • Visiting Professors (minimum of three months to a maximum of 24 months visit) and
  • Post Doctoral Fellows (one year that may be renewed for at most another).

Our research group is a collaborating partner node in the National Research Foundation (NRF)-Department of Science and Technology (DST) Centre of Excellence in Mathematics and Statistical Sciences (MaSS) that supports Masters and Doctoral students in our topology focus areas with bursary opportunities.
