Homemade Taco Seasoning

Original Recipe on Taste As You Go

Note: I use about 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning per 1 pound of ground meat and add a little bit of water to distribute the seasoning a little more evenly. Adjust this proportion to suit your personal tastes.

  • 2 tablespoons + 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  1. Measure all of the ingredients into a 4-ounce jelly jar. Place the lid on the jar and shake until all of the spices and seasonings are well-mixed.
  2. Store the jar in your pantry or your cabinet for up to 1 year. Chances are, it won't last that long!
  3. If you're not using a jelly jar for mixing and storage, then measure all of the ingredients into a small bowl. Stir the ingredients with a spoon until well-mixed and then store the taco seasoning in an air-tight container in your pantry or your cabinet for up to 1 year.
