Friends of the Library

Do you value learning and want a part in promoting it in our community? The Tarkington Community Library is a non-profit organization that uses community contributions to maintain an up-to-date lending library and offer a wide variety of free informational programs and projects of interest to all ages. Below are a few easy ways you can play a part. For more information regarding volunteering or making tax-deductible contributions, contact library staff.

Quarter Sale

TCL has an ongoing sale of library materials (books, movies, etc.) that we can no longer use.  Please feel free to stop by and browse.  Paperbacks are 25¢, and hardcovers are 50¢.  Proceeds go toward the continued operation of the library and the acquisition of new materials.

Tarkington Round-Up

Each fall during the first weekend in October, the library hosts vendor booth spaces at the Tarkington Round-Up community-wide festival. Additionally, the library brings a book fair to the festival. Renting booth spaces and shopping at the book fair are both ways to help our community library in its mission to offer a wide variety of learning opportunities to the folks on Tarkington Prairie. Contact the library during regular operating hours for more information on renting a booth at Tarkington Round-Up or email us here.

Donations

TCL is proud to accept donations in the form of materials, funds, or services.  Receipts for funds or materials are available on request. We do reserve the right to refuse donations of materials for any reason. What makes a good donation? A general rule of thumb: if you wouldn't buy it or give it to a friend, think twice before donating it.

Condition Matters - The library cannot lend books that are in bad condition.  Helpful guidelines for donations:
  • Books should not be dirty, moldy, burned,or smelly
  • We cannot accept Reader's Digest Condensed Books or Time Life Collections
  • Damaged (missing covers or pages) cannot be accepted
  • Books with excessive markings cannot be accepted
Materials that have been donated to the library become property of TCL and may be added to the collection or discarded without notification to the original owner in a manner that seems fitting to the library staff (including recycling, donating to another organization, or adding to fundraising endeavors).
