Short Biography
Dr. Tarek Bejaoui is a Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences of Bizerta (FSB), University of Carthage. He is also a member of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering Applications (IDEA) Lab. Since 2006, he has served as an industrial consultant and is the Founding President of the Tunisian Wireless Communications Society.
Dr. Bejaoui earned his Ph.D. with Honors in Information and Communication Technologies in July 2005 from the University of Paris-Sud XI (Orsay), at the Institut d’Électronique Fondamentale (IEF)—now part of Paris-Saclay University (ranked 14th in the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities, Shanghai Ranking). In February 2018, he obtained his Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in Information and Communication Technologies from the Higher School of Communications of Tunis (Sup’Com).
To further enhance his research expertise, Dr. Bejaoui held two post-doctoral positions:
At the University of Paris-Sud XI (Orsay, IEF Lab) in 2005–2006.
At the University of Paris-Dauphine (LAMSADE Lab) in 2008–2009.
Education Background:
Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies (2005, University of Paris-Sud XI).
M.Sc. (DEA) in Systems Analysis and Digital Processing (1999, National Engineering School of Tunis, ENIT).
M.Sc. (DESS) in High-Speed Networks (2000, Sup’Com).
Diploma in Industrial Maintenance Engineering (1992, National Engineering School of Monastir, ENIM).
Professional Experience: From 1992 to 1994, Dr. Bejaoui worked as Maintenance Department Manager at Cofamat – Elloumi Group (~400 employees, Automotive Components Industry). From 1994 to 2001, he joined the Cement Plant of Bizerta (~900 employees) as a Maintenance Engineer.
From 2008 to 2011, he served as Head of the Computer Science Department at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology of Mateur (ISSATM), University of Carthage. He was a member of the MEDIATRON Lab at Sup’Com until July 2021, before joining the IDEA Lab at FSB.
Research Interests: His current research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Cellular Networks, QoS Provisioning, and Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs).
Industrial Collaboration: Between 2007 and 2015, in collaboration with Tunisie Telecom (Tunisia’s leading telecommunication provider), he supervised numerous projects related to Cellular Networks, FTTH Access Networks, Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T), VoIP, and SEA-ME-WE 4 submarine cable systems.
Publications & Contributions: Dr. Bejaoui has authored multiple book chapters and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and workshops, primarily in the fields of wireless and mobile systems and networks.
Academic & Professional Engagements:
Steering Committee Chair, General Chair, and Organizer of several IEEE International Conferences (e.g., GLOBECOM, ISNCC, ICC, SmartNets, MENACOMM).
IEEE Senior Member and active member of the IEEE Tunisia Section Executive Committee.
Currently Vice-Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Tunisia Chapter and Chair of the Nomination Committee of the IEEE Tunisia Section.
Past Vice-Chair of the IEEE Tunisia Section for Technical Activities and Chair of its "Awards and Recognition" Committee.
Member of the IEEE Smart Cities and IEEE Internet of Things Technical Communities.
Dr. Bejaoui has also provided technical assistance to the Municipality of Bizerta (Banzart) for its digital transition projects, supported by the French Development Agency (AFD) (link).
