To keep public lands in the public's hands & preserve wilderness resources.
As a start, we are proposing the mission statement put out by the Sierra Club which reads:
  • To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
  • To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
  • To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives

Priority Objectives:
  • Track and influence State & Federal legislation, including opposition to deregulation
  • Resist Privatization & leasing of public lands
  • Promote Education & media literacy
The Environment Group was originally broken into three groups because of the overwhelming interest in the environment in Taos United. The original three groups were 1) Public Lands, 2) Climate Change, Renewable Energy 3) EPA, Air, Water. The active members of these groups voted to join the three back into a single Environment Group to avoid overlap and to strengthen our voice.

The next Environment Group meeting is scheduled for September 27th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Kit Carson Electric Coop Board Room on Cruz Alta.

There is now a combined Taos United and Renewable Taos meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 4 - 6 PM. We are working on how to get legislative action on renewable energy issues. Please join us if you can and get involved.

Attached is a talk entitled:
