I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in my right breast the end of March, 2005. Prior to beginning chemotherapy the middle of April I attended a class to learn about chemo and all the side effect associated with it. At the end of the class I was given some information about a project called Integrated Awareness which they thought I might want to participate in. At this point I didn’t want anything to do with a program that would be sitting around giving me more negative information about cancer, chemo, radiation and anything else to do with this dread disease.

However, when I went for my first chemotherapy session the following Tuesday, my oncologist informed me that she had recommended me for the program because of my beliefs in holistic medicine. After hearing this, I was much more interested and contacted Jan Cendese to find out if it was too late to become involved in the project. What a blessing that was to my life!!

I had my first table session with The Awareness Option four days after receiving my first chemotherapy. I had thrown up two times the day of chemo and been continually nauseated after that. The only things I could eat were crackers and broth and I was beginning to feel me strength deteriorating. By Friday I wasn’t sure how I would be able to endure the side effects of chemo and still be able to have strength to work and continue to function in life. My energy was so low at this point and I was still nauseated. When I went for my first session I arrived feeling tired and nauseated. After the session I could not believe that I wasn’t nauseated and even felt hungry. An additional blessing was a return of my energy. It was amazing.

As I have worked through other table sessions and the workshop that was offered in conjunction with this project I have been able to maintain my levels of energy and keep the nausea under control. Additional help has come as I have felt more focused and able to accomplish the work required of me at my job. Learning to boost my own immune system and to have family and friends boost it has greatly increased my ability to cope with chemotherapy. I don’t know how I could have survived without the help of Integrated Awareness.

I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is facing chemotherapy and other treatments associated with cancer. I also know it would be beneficial in many other areas where the immune system is suppressed or anyone is struggling with health issues.
