REFORM OF THE STAFF REGULATIONS

THE FUTURE OF THE EU IS AT STAKE

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF STAFF

ON THE 9th OCTOBER AT 12.30

IN THE HALL OF THE BERLAYMONT

Here is TAO-AFI's progress report on the Reform. The latest news is that at least some members of the Council would like to make a direct link between the administrative Reform and the Financial Framework for 2014-2020.

At the Council Summit of 22 and 23 November, some Member States will try to pre-empt the Reform negotiations by introducing a much larger cut in the administrative budget than foreseen in M. Šefčovič's proposal, which would leave the EU Institutions no option but to make even bigger cuts in salaries and pensions and reduce staff numbers by up to 15%.

Our Institution is already preparing possible responses to such an eventuality: externalisations, mergers of several DGs, common administrative services, etc.

But will this be enough?

You are surely asking yourself questions such as:

How can they make such large staff cuts, even spread over 7 years, while at the same time raising the retirement age to 65? Through redundancies?

The European Parliament for the moment is against too large budget cuts, but can it maintain its stance to the end?

Will there be an agreement by the end of the year?

Is it better to retire before the Reform is introduced?
