MEMBER STATES AND PARLIAMENT PREPARING TO ATTACK OUR PENSIONS AND OUR CAREERS

TAO-AFI informs you that the Council and the EP could adopt a common text on the reform at first reading in October-November 2012. Indications are that pensions will be at the heart of this agreement. Contrary to the Commission proposal, the Council and Parliament are looking at:

·         Reducing the accrual rate to 1.9% for everyone (for those in service before 01/05/2004 the rate is currently 2%)

·         Substantial increase (50% or more) in the monthly contribution (currently 11.6%)

·         Change the calculation of pension (downwards)

·         Review the annual adjustment of pensions

·         Introduce a levy for pensioners.

For salaries and careers:

·         Increase in step every 3 years instead of every 2 years

·         Restrictions on AD career development (already in the Commission's proposal for ASTs )

·         Thorough revision of the various indemnities and allowances.

The slogan in the Council is the same of the governments of many Member States and even the Commission to combat the so-called crisis:

A permanent degradation in our careers and pensions
