This was the third Jan Hong Tournament. The defending champions were the Pakistan Cricket Club Taipei (PCCT). Read about 2011's tournament.

The Formosa Cricket Club (FCC) returned to form with a team effort beating the well-performed Pakistan Cricket Club (PCCT) in the final of Chiayi City's 2012 Jan Hong cricket tournament. The biggest contributor to the win was opener Murugasen Kannan (84 not out) who hit the final ball of the penultimate over for four to see victory. It was a long series of mini-partnerships that got FCC to the win. Dhananjay Magar (7) ended an otherwise impressive tournament with a low score and wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter.

The target of 139 was set up by player of the tournament Shezhad Khan (49) and captain Mujahid Muhammad (34) who capitalised on the fielding restrictions by hitting over the inner ring. They had reached 68 when Thomas Rayen bowled an unplayable delivery to Muhammad, inducing an edge. Keeper Thomas Day completed the catch and added two stumpings as Rayen (1/18) and Salim Indiradevi (1/21) put the brakes on the scoring.

PCCT might have thought their total adequate, but it was nothing compared to their semifinal effort where Khan (102*) hit a century and set Taipei Cricket Association an unbeatable 174. FCC defended 144 against hosts the Badshaws which their batsmen threatened to chase down. But Rayen (2/21) was again the bowler to watch edging out Shoaib Tanveer (50) and having Touseef Ahmed (22) caught in the deep by Magar.

Amjad Zafar (98 not out) went close to a rare century in Group One. Batting first against Taipei's Pakistan Cricket Club (PCCT) batted first and showed no mercy with a total of 203/2. Shezhad Khan (56), responding to some calls from the spectators for sixes, helped power the innings. Their other win against the new Royals side was not so easy. Selvakumor Palanisamy picked up two wickets, including Zafar cheaply, to restrict PCCT to 123. The Royals chased valiantly with Suresh Rangapillai (35) leading the way, but their 84 was too few.

Hosts for the tournament, the Badshaws, also had two wins against the same opposition, but in contrasting fashion. Tanveer Ahmed (3/9) opened with a triple wicket maiden and the Royals limped through to 80. Imran Syed (30 not out) and Kashif Mansoor (35 not out) batted through to seal a ten wicket win. Their earlier match was also a ten wicket win as they knocked over the Scunner team for just 45.

Group Two opened with a third ten wicket win. This one to the Taipei Cricket Association (TCA) over the Daredevils who made 118. Andrew Carrick (37) and Jeff Black (43) saw off Krishna Reddy (0/11), but the rest of the team struggled to capitalise. Apoorav Srivastava (48 not out) and Jonty Sharma (54 not out) matched the target with five overs to spare. The Daredevils upped the tempo against the Formosa Cricket Club (FCC), but not before Dhananjay Magar (70 not out) and FCC captain, Heinrich Nothnagel (46 not out) posted 156/2. The chase started poorly when Black (12) fell to an edge after driving three fours. Carrick (80 not out), however,  belted the attack to all parts and with Roy Horgan (63 not out) in equally fine form, the seemingly good target turned out to be 20 runs too few.

Then came the upset of the day as the Daredevils slipped to their second loss against the Tainan Swingers. Carrick (86) was again devastating and a target of 129 looked much too much. Stephen White (66) cracked four sixes and his partner, Mikhail Weekes (54 not out) hit five to see victory in the last over.
