Taiwan is a marvelous place for birding. As well as being rich in
endemics it is a key stopover on the East Asian north-south flyway. Taiwan Ecotours birding tours are fully customizable and flexible. We have tours suitable for everyone from hardcore listers to those just wanting a
taste of East Asia's avifauna.
- General Birding: We visit some of the
most pleasant habitats on the island on the lookout for some of the
over 600 recorded species (400+ regularly occurring, 150-200 most tours), as well as
enjoying the best of Formosa's scenery, butterflies, flora, and culture.
- Endemic hunting: With
good planning it is just about possible to knock off all the endemic
and many subspecies in just a few days. Many of the 70+ endemic subspecies are being gradually upgraded
to full species status. See the link on the left for our 2016 and 2017 tours.
- Extensions: We lead extension trips to Lanyu (Orchid Island), Matsu, Kinmen Okinawa and Hokkaido Japan.
You’ll enjoy your own individually
produced itinerary, and at a price that compares VERY favorably to UK/US based tours, or
doing everything by yourself (if at all possible without Chinese language ability and local knowledge).
Why choose Taiwan Ecotours?
Northern-Irish Richard, the
owner of Taiwan Ecotours, has over 20 years experience of exploring his
adopted home. Years of mountain and nature guiding have given him an intimate
knowledge of Taiwan's richest habitats (20+ Taiwan tours a year). His expeditions are continually
tracking down new locations for the most sought-after and localized
culture, birds, flora, and lepidoptera. First-hand knowledge is still
invaluable in ensuring your visit includes the most productive areas -
and that you enjoy your visit here. Please
do not hesitate to get in touch with Richard with your
requirements and target species. He will be delighted to design a
tailor-made itinerary for you and looks forward to meeting you!
