Taiwan is a marvelous place for birding. As well as being rich in endemics it is a key stopover on the East Asian north-south flyway. Taiwan Ecotours birding tours are fully customizable and flexible. We have 4 kinds of offerings suitable for everyone from hardcore listers to those just wanting a taste of East Asia's avifauna.
  • General Birding: We visit some of the most pleasant habitats on the island on the lookout for some of the over 600 recorded species (400+ regularly occurring), as well as enjoying the best of Formosa's scenery, butterflies, flora, and culture.
  • Endemic hunting: With good planning it is just about possible to knock off all the endemic and many subspecies in just a few days. Many of the 70+ endemic subspecies are being gradually upgraded to full species status. See the link on the left for our 2015 and 2016 tours.
  • Extensions: We lead extension trips to Lanyu (Orchid Island), Matsu, Kinmen, and Penghu for excellent migration species; Kenting especially at raptor migration time, and the best spots for endemic flora and lepidoptera.
  • Tainan/Taipei day trips: We are based in the historic southern Taiwanese city of Tainan, and always eager to show the highlights in our backyard. Black-faced Spoonbills, Endemic-rich hills, and the wetland habitats of the nearby Qiku/Aogu area - as well as around Taipei!
  • Why choose Taiwan Ecotours?

You’ll enjoy your own individually produced itinerary, and at a price that compares VERY favorably to UK/US based tours, or doing everything by yourself (if at all possible without some Chinese ability and local knowledge).

Northern-Irish Richard, the owner of Taiwan Ecotours, has over 20 years experience of exploring his adopted home. Years of mountain and nature guiding have given him an intimate knowledge of Taiwan's richest habitats (20+ Taiwan tours a year). His expeditions are continually tracking down new locations for the most sought-after and localized culture, birds, flora, and lepidoptera. First-hand knowledge is still invaluable in ensuring your visit includes the most productive areas - and that you enjoy your visit here.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with Richard with your requirements and target species. He will be delighted to design a tailor-made itinerary for you and looks forward to meeting you! TaiwanEcotours@gmail.com
