About our troupe and Kumu's
Talofa, Taloha ni! My name is Vaoileti Poueu Peleti of Samoa and Tokelau descent. I have been in the entertainment business for about 45 years as a Dance Instructor 23years. My older sisters were my teachers,starting at age of four. Vaitulu Poueu - Schirmer , Matasaua Poueu - Vavao and Luisa Poueu - Case who is now LeIisa dance troupe from San Diego. I grew up in San Francisco and danced for luau’s with my older brother’s the Poueu brothers band, including cousin’s Tony and Sipa Anoai.Then we moved to Rohnert Park, Ca., joined the Hawaiian club and started performing with the Hawaiian club. From there I performed with my family continuosly and then started dancing for Pua matala under the direction of Linda (aunty Nani) Cassidy. I moved to Hawaii, wanted to continue dancing and I was hired by Tavana’s Polynesian Spectacular Revue in 1981, under the direction of Malala McMoore and started my career in Hawaii with Tavana, the best experience ever in my life. I moved to Samoa and started teaching and dancing at the Tusitala Hotel for Derrick Godinet, started teaching youth group dances for their fundraisers here in the mainland. Danced at the Bali Hai in San Diego with my older sister‘s, danced with Heali’i Onalani under the direction of my sister in law Kathy Gore-Stanley, Poueu Ausiva and Royal Polynesia.
