JOINING THE TEAM

If you are interested in learning more about the K9 Team and joining/training with us, please contact us by the information posted at the bottom of the web page.

The Wilson County Sheriff Department K9 team is an air scent wilderness and disaster search and rescue (SAR) team that serves Wilson County, Tennessee and any other municipalities upon request. The team was founded in November, 2006, and as of March 22, 2009, has eight operational dogs with five more in training.

The team trains to Federal Emergency Management Agency Urban Search and Rescue (FEMA USAR) standards for disaster search and rescue. The team trains to Tennessee EMAT and NASAR standards for wilderness search. In addition, the team has a certified cadaver dog.

The K9 training facilities include an agility course, bark boxes, bark barrels, a directional course, concrete and wood rubble piles. These facilities are open to any working dog team wishing to use them. Please contact us for locations.

K9 is a volunteer based team and is open to persons wanting to learn how to train their K9 for SAR work. No previous experience is required. Any breed of dog is welcome to train as long as they are socialized and non-aggressive towards other dogs and people. We currently have 7 different breeds of dog training with our team.  If you are interested in joining us please contact us at tacsar@gmail.com for more information.

****We would like to extend a special THANK YOU  to Life Assembly Church for their support of the Wilson County Sheriff Department K9 SAR Team! Life Assembly invited the Disaster K9 Team to their Church Service and made a video of the dogs in action.
