The three Ricky/Commonwealth Eyes books are packaged together with a new preface connecting all three novels in the Eyes Trilogy.  This story is about Daniel Karpinen and his immediate family and how they learned to control gravity and themselves and eventually to travel to the stars.  The story starts with Daniel as a copy editor for a large textbook and magazine publisher and how he is pushed and pulled by both outside and inside forces to lead humanity to the stars.  The Eyes Trilogy contains the bestselling Eyes of an Eagle, the frantic tale of the forming of the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth in Eyes of a Cat and finally culminating in the amazing Eyes of a Seeker.  The Eyes Trilogy is the classic hard science fiction adventure from the Golden Days of SF but updated with today's science.

K is for Kitty is something slightly unusual for a hard science SF novel -- it is a cozy mystery.  On the interstellar traveling garage and tow ship Scrap, travels last for months and years.  The crews have to bring their families along on their journeys or live away from them for years.  But when the ship's children grow up they sometimes want to try the more stationary and sedate life on one of the planets in the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth.  Captain Finn's daughter has lived her whole life Scrap.  She loves her home but wants, like all children, to explore beyond the steel/ceramic walls of her home and into the larger universe outside.  She decides to take a few graduate college courses on Mars and get an advanced degree.  She thought it would be a relaxing break from the dangerous work of repairing equipment across the fringes of the Commonwealth.  Instead of the typical coed worries about school work and college partying, she stumbles across a dead body and becomes involved in solving the murder.  There is a problem.  Criminals don't want to be caught and they become dangerous when cornered.

To her surprise, she discovers that the more she tries to escape the overpowering presence of her famous and close knit family the more she is her parents' daughter.  The criminals on Mars don't know what they have unleased when they accidently cross paths with a master mechanic and engineer's daughter.

K is for Kitty is a true cozy amateur detective mystery that is set in the science fiction worlds of the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth.

Tigress continues the story of Scrap and her crew of space mechanics.  Captain Finn's daughter Kitty comes back to her ship after going to college on Mars.  Her father gives her more responsibilities which she thrives on.  Soon she becomes one of the best known engineers in space and a force both bureaucrats and criminals learn not to mess with.  Her group of admirers soon create her legend -- Tigress.

Tigress is a strong edition to the Interstellar Towing and Repair series. The frontier worlds of space are not much different than the frontier worlds on earth.  Life at the edge of civilization brings out both the good and bad in people who are just trying to live at raw corners of the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth.

Winter War continues the story of Scrap and her crew of space mechanics.  Captain Finn's daughter Kitty takes on new responsibilities when a frontier colony is attacked by pirate/slavers.  Using her engineering skills, she helps the peaceful colony world prepare for a war with the pirates.  When civilizations collide there is always conflict.   These clashes between cultures can easily degenerate into the horrors of war.  People prefer to think that civilizations mistakes from the past won't happen again in the future.  But the future mistakes will happen.  History just shows us how we handled those problems from the past so we can try to mitigate the consequences.

Winter War is a strong edition to the Interstellar Towing and Repair series. The frontier worlds of space are not much different than the frontier worlds on earth.  Life at the edge of civilization brings out both the good and bad in people who are just trying to live at raw corners of the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth.

Although this book is written as part of a series, it can be read as a standalone story.  A note has been added to the beginning of the story to make it easier for the reader to understand the SF worlds created for the tale.

New!

Orion's Ghost continues the story of Scrap and her crew of space mechanics.  Captain Finn's daughter Kitty gets a new tender.  Unfortunately the previous crew on her new ship were all killed while trying to repair a cargo vessel with a bad reactor.  To most spacers any ship that loses its crew is considered cursed with the ghosts of the lost crew.   Kitty takes the ghost tender and makes it a legend.

Orion's Ghost is a strong edition to the Interstellar Repairs and Towing series. Even in a high tech future universe, people can still be superstitious.  It takes a strong person to claim the superstition and make it their own, which Kitty does with her new ship.  Even in a high tech future, people are still people.  Most are looking to create a good life for themselves and their children but many are more interested in taking.   Life at the edge of civilization brings out both the good and bad in people who are just trying to live at the raw corners of the Terran/Ricky Commonwealth.

Although this book is written as part of a series, it can be read as a standalone story.  A note has been added to the beginning of the story to make it easier for the reader to understand the SF worlds created for the tale.

Return of the Han:  How I became Mad Anthony

The world is slowly recovering from the depredations of the Han.  Buck Rogers is part of the rebuilding.  It is discovered that a new Han mother ship has entered our solar system.  This time Buck decides to take the fight off earth and to them.  He leaves Wilma, the love of his life, to defend the earth from any Han that slip past his attack.  Who will live and who will die in the ferocious battles ahead?

Author's note:

Philip Francis Nowlan wrote only two Buck Rogers stories, one in 1928 and the other in 1929.  Both stories appeared in pulp magazines.  He went on to write Buck Rogers cartoon strips and died only a decade later without producing another written story.  The stories grew a large audience and have continued to today in various forms.  An authorized outline for new Buck Rogers stories was produced in the 1970s, thirty years after Nowlan's death.  This period saw huge changes in science, culture and the writing marketplace (Another World War, a Cold War, nuclear power and weapons, the collapse of the pulp magazines and the pulp market in general).  The authorized outline reflects those changes.

No one knows what a Buck Rogers story would look like if it had been written in the 1930s.  I was asked to try what I could do with this idea, produce a true to era story.  Contemporary readers forget the huge scientific and cultural changes that happened since the Great Depression years of the 1930s.  Any story written to fit in this period has to reflect cultural and scientific ideas that seem outdated to the contemporary reader.  The storytelling was closer to the 19th century than the 21st.  Also the pulp market for a 1930s SF story is much different than today's.  The story would have appeared in a pulp magazine, possibly serialized to appear in more than one issue.  The SF and fantasy writers in the 1930s were also experimenting in the genre in different ways.  One of the ways was the tentative introduction of female lead characters as a central role in the storytelling.  The female leads had to both reflect a new reality but not alienate the male dominated mores of the time.

I wrote the story working under the concept that Nowlan was interested in writing a new story but didn't have the time so he looked for another 1930s author to ghost write a rough story outline he had in mind for a 1930s pulp magazine.

*DRM is a method of locking the e-book to a branded (Kindle, Nook, Kobo...) e-reading device.  E-books without DRM can be read on any e-reading device by using either a free or purchased e-reading conversion program such as http://calibre-ebook.com/.  Of course there is no need to use a conversion program for non-DRM e-books when they are read on their native e-readers.
