Table Top Trains

Introduction

If you want to get involved in model railroading for the first time or if you are already into the hobby but lack a place to setup a permanent layout, this book is for you.

There will be frequent reference to “modules” throughout this book.   A module may also be referred to as a diorama and/or scene.

The concepts presented here for creating a model railroad layout will require you build several modules.  This book is going to cover a concept based on a modular design that provides many advantages and conveniences including:

  • Low cost
  • Easy to assemble and disassemble
  • Easy to store
  • Easy to transport
  • Easy to build and work on
  • Unlimited flexibility
  • Looks fantastic
  • Works great
  • No power tools or soldering iron necessary

There are several standards for modular train layouts, many of which you see at train shows and clubs.  The most common standards include NTrak and T-TRAK.  But this one is different because it is simpler.   It is made for a table top, and whether you choose to use a dining room table, kitchen table, folding table(s) or a game table like a ping pong table, you will find this concept a great choice.  We recommend N scale KATO Unitrack for our modules and layouts.

Inside this book you will find detailed instructions, including recommended materials, how-to guides, suggestions, examples, and more. We are sure you will save $$$ with our money saving tips and suggestions.
