To have an efficient Boy led Troop offering Leadership and Training
while having fun and learning some life skills along the way.
About Our Troop:
Troop 609 is part of the Boy Scouts of America in the Western Los Angeles County Council, Bill Hart District. We generally have between 40 and 50 scouts. Founded in 1970, Troop 609 was originally chartered
by the Valencia Hills HOA. The charter
later transferred to the Meadows School PTA in 1972 then the First Methodist
Church of Valencia in 1982. Finally, in
1984, the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall assumed responsibility for Troop
609 and has been our charter sponsor for over 30 years. Like most scout troops, we use the patrol method where as each scout is part of a patrol of 8 boys. There are scouts of all ages and ranks involved in the troop. We participate in a variety of activities throughout the year, including backpacking, car camping and others. One recent event was our Santa Cruz Island Kayak trip. (see some pictures from our recent adventures/historian page)
The troop attends Summer camp and the District Camporee every year. Our Summer camp is a week long (Sunday to Saturday) session at an established scout camp. It's fun and an excellent opportunity for scouts new and old to earn rank advancements and merit Badges. It's also a cgreat opportunity for patrols and troop to bond. Summer Camp is a good way to meet other scouts from other troops and it may be a learning experience for our Leaders as well!
