Please check the Announcements page for important club info, like us on Facebook, and also be sure to sign up for the listserv

Syracuse University Ballroom Dance Organization (BDO for short) is the official Ballroom Dance Club of Syracuse University.  We're open to any student from either SU or ESF with an interest ballroom dancing.  If that describes you, come check us out!.

Do I need experience?

Our club includes people who have never danced before in their lives to competitive National Dance Champions.  Don't let lack of experience hold you back from joining BDO.  We encourage complete beginners, and of course, we love experienced dancers as well. Part of our organization is the Ballroom Performance Team, which choreographs, learns, and performs one routine per semester at many on- and off-campus shows. Auditions are in September!

Do I need a partner?

Ballroom is danced with a partner, but it is not necessary to bring your own partner.  If you have someone in mind you'd like to dance with, we encourage you to bring them, but we rotate partners in both practice and lessons.

What happens in BDO?

If you are a complete beginner, the Thursday practice will provide a good introduction to all things ballroom. Our more experienced members teach each dance to the newer members in the form of a short lesson, and then we open up the floor for practice and dancing. Sunday practices are designed for more advanced technique and choreography practice. With dancing, the more you practice the better you get!

What can I do as a member?

Becoming a member of BDO gives you access to all sorts of amazing opportunities--BDO-only group lessons with world class professional ballroom instructors. You have the options to compete, perform in showcases,  and to help host campus social dances. All in all, you will be able to learn and practice your dancing with many different partners at all skill levels.

Additionally, the BDO members are some of the friendliest people you will meet while at SU, and we will fill up your social dance calendar if you let us.  We set up carpools to go to off-campus dance clubs and go out dancing together on the weekends. Here is the Syracuse USA Dancesport chapter site, which lists ballroom opportunities off-campus.

The bottom line is if you're not here dancing with us at BDO, you are missing out.  The solution is simple, come check us out and JOIN THE CLUB!  Bring your dancing shoes.  See you soon!
