Do you love science, math, and engineering? Do you get excellent grades? Would you like to expand your knowledge and meet other California students who love science as much as you do? Would you like to interact with University of California faculty, scientists, researchers, and graduate students? Then COSMOS is for you!
The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is an intensive, academic, residential, four-week program held on a UC campus. COSMOS provides enrichment classes in subjects not typically taught in high school such as astronomy, cognitive science, wetlands ecology, game theory, biomedical sciences and aerospace engineering. The goal of COSMOS is to motivate the most creative minds of the new generation of prospective scientists, engineers and mathematicians and to introduce them to faculty mentors.
The student body at COSMOS is culturally and ethnically diverse and selected from almost every county in California. Full tuition is $2,000; approximately one third of the attending students receive full or partial scholarships. Past attendees have given resounding accolades to both the academic and social programs provided at COSMOS. To learn more about COSMOS and how to apply, go to the COSMOS site at www.ucop.edu/cosmos.
* Eighth grade students must be working at an advanced grade level in math and science and must be mature enough to spend a month in a residential program.
