Symptoms Of Enlarged Spleen

    enlarged spleen
  • Splenomegaly is an enlargement of the spleen. The spleen usually lies in the left upper quadrant (LUQ) of the human abdomen. It is one of the four cardinal signs of hypersplenism, the other three being cytopenia(s), normal or hyperplastic bone marrow, and a response to splenectomy.
  • Another symptom of mononucleosis. To avoid rupturing of the spleen, individuals with a swollen spleen are encouraged to refrain from sports or any activities which could put pressure on or cause injury to the abdominal area
  • (symptom) anything that accompanies X and is regarded as an indication of X's existence
  • A physical or mental feature that is regarded as indicating a condition of disease, particularly such a feature that is apparent to the patient
  • A sign of the existence of something, esp. of an undesirable situation
  • Symptoms is a 1974 British horror film directed by Jose Ramon Larraz. It was entered into the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. Although circulated privately through bootlegs, the original prints are missing, and was last show on British television in 1983.
  • (symptom) (medicine) any sensation or change in bodily function that is experienced by a patient and is associated with a particular disease

This female ferret was only 12 months old when she came in for evaluation of a large, distended abdomen. Her spleen was huge, even for a ferret. It occupied ~80% of her abdomen. She tired easily with play and her appetite was a little off. You can see in this view a mass-effect in the thorax, cranial to the heart. I'll post another picture of the necropsy (she didn't make it) so you can see what it looks like. Her direct cause of death was most likely internal bleeding, as her spleen had ruptured and she died rather acutely. (Photo 1 of 2)
No, unfortunately I'm not referring to the picture. I have mononucleosis. For the past few weeks I've had extra sinus trouble and a light burning sensation in my left upper abdomen. Went to the doctor and he said "I think you have mono; the burning is because your spleen is enlarged". The sinus problems and what I thought was allergy related fatigue are just some of the regular symptoms. One blood test later and sure enough I have mono. This is one of the only pictures I have wanted to take the last few weeks. DSC_7397
