Welcome to the Sylvan Beach Pavilion Rehabilitation Project!

Project at a Glance:
During Hurricane Ike in 2008, the Sylvan Beach Pavilion in the City of LaPorte experienced heavy structural and cosmetic damage.  Harris County has received a contract award from the Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA), now administered by the General Land Office (GLO), for renovations and repairs to the facility.

The historic 1956 Sylvan Beach Pavilion has been many things to many people since it opened its doors in 1956.  The Pavilion has hosted Beauty Pageants, Weddings, Retirements, Quinceaneras, Ball Room Dances and Community Meetings, just to name a few.  By restoring the Pavilion, Harris County hopes to give back to the community a rejuvenated structure that has earned a place in the hearts and memories of many.

Project Objectives

  • Produce a design that is within budget as well as scope for this project.
  • Utilize a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method to ensure any possible construction issues are resolved in the design phases.
  • Preserve the Pavilion's historical character as approved by the Texas Historical Commission (THC).
