2019 SWOKE Choral Festival
The Choral Festival will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2019, and is open to all elementary school singers with unchanged voices. The location of our festival is Milwaukie Lutheran Church. Rehearsals will run from 10:00 am-3:00 pm, and the concert will be at 3:30 pm.This year, we are excited to have Kimberly Skondin work with our students.
Kimberly Skondin holds her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Oregon and Masters in K-12 Music Education from Portland State University. Kimberly is a level four certified Kodaly educator and has extensive experience performing, teaching, and directing choirs with the Youth Choir of Central Oregon. She has been the artistic director of the ORS Youth Choirs since 2014, and in 2016 won the prestigious Excellence in Elementary Music Education award from the Oregon Music Education Association.
In addition to her work with Oregon Repertory Singers, Kim is a K-5 music specialist at Hazeldale Elementary in the Beaverton school district, serves of the Oregon Music Educators Association Board, and National Planning committee for the Kodaly Conference. Prior to her work in the Portland metro area, she was the K-5 music specialist at Buckingham Elementary School in Bend, OR where she founded the Bronco Singers in 2011 which grew from 20 singers to 60 singers in three years.
Festival Cost & Registration
Members of SWOKE and OAKE receive a discount on the per-student registration fee. The cost per student is $10 for OAKE members and $15 for OAKE non-members. Directors must have current membership through April 20th to qualify for the member discount.
SWOKE collects registrations for the festival electronically. To register your choir to participate, please complete the online registration form.
Kindly complete this information by February 15, 2019. Payment is due by March 6th, 2019. Choirs who submit registration after February 15th will be charged a 5% late fee. Payments postmarked after March 6th will also be charged a separate and additional 5% late fee.
Combined Performance Repertoire
For your convenience, the mass choir will be listed below. Please contact us if you need more information or have ordering information. Each choir is invited to perform one additional piece in the festival, though that is not a requirement. An additional $25 will be added as an accompanist fee and a copy of the piece music must be provided to the festival accompanist at the time of registry (scan and email to email@example.com). If a piece is performed a cappella you will not need to pay the fee.
