Swinburne Community Childcare Co-op

Swinburne Community Childcare Co-op is a small not-for-profit long daycare service on the edge of Swinburne's Hawthorn Campus. We provide high quality care to children of Swinburne students, staff and the local community. We offer care for children ranging from newly mobile babies to kinder age.

Opening hours

We provide care 8am-6pm Monday-Friday with the exception of Victorian public holidays. We are open 48 weeks a year, with a 4 week closure period over Christmas and into January.

Why choose us?

  • We are a family grouping centre, meaning your child will have the chance to interact with children of all different ages through the day. For younger children this means the opportunity to see good behaviours modelled by similar-age mentors, and for older children it means opportunities to practice mentoring and empathy.

  • Your child will have a single primary educator from when they begin in the centre through to when they begin full-time four-year old kinder. This gives your child a primary attachment in those crucial early years and you a first point of contact. It also ensures your child receives personalised education and attention.

  • We are a small centre, with only 35 children per day in attendance ensuring children have the opportunity to form strong friendships

  • Drawing on staff and students at the university, we are a linguistically and culturally diverse centre. This offers all children opportunities for cross-cultural learning and empathy.

  • We are a not for profit centre, operating solely for the benefit of children and their families.

  • We offer indoor and outdoor play year round provided children have adequate protective clothing (broad brim hats in the summer, coats and gumboots in wet weather).

  • We achieved a rating of 'exceeds expectations' on all areas of the National Quality Framework.

  • We offer an on-site accredited kinder program to all four year olds, and part time to many three year olds dependent on capacity.

  • Our centre is managed by a parent committee, who are invested in the care of children in the centre.
