Frequently Asked Questions

The Vista Ridge Riptide serves about 130 swim team kids in the Erie Area. Riptide is a non-competitive, fun swimming league. Win or lose, our swim team fosters a respect for our teammates, for our competitors and for ourselves. Our team is run by a board of directors who volunteer throughout the year to keep the summer swim team running fiscally responsibly and well managed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does my swimmer need to try out for swim team?

A: If your swimmer was on the 2017 Riptide swim team, they do not need to try out. If your swimmer is age 6&U or NEW to the Riptide, then yes they do need to try out. Tryouts will be at the Skyline pool. Date and time to be announced.

Q: Do we need certain supplies for swim team?

A: Yes. Your child will need to purchase a bathing suit, goggles, a few towels and a water bottle. You do not need to order a team suit, however we ask that you do not wear two-piece suits or long, baggy shorts. All Riptide gear can be purchased through our team store at https://www.swimoutlet.com/vistaridgeriptide/.

Q: We are going on vacation/summer camps, etc. during swim season. Is it ok to miss practices and meets?

A: Absolutely! We know families have lots going on during the summer. The great thing about our league is that you can participate at your own level. We do not require practice attendance and/or meet attendance.

Q: Can I stay and watch practice?

A: Parents are welcome to watch practice from the deck chairs around the pool. In order to keep swimmers focused on their coaches and workout, and so that our coaches can keep a good eye on our swimmers, please refrain from approaching coaches during practice. If you have a concern, please see a board member during practice or wait until practice has concluded to communicate with the coaches.

Q: What if it rains or the weather looks questionable on meet or practice day?

A: If weather is too severe to swim, the meets may be postponed or cancelled by agreement of the Team’s League Representatives. Many times a meet will not be cancelled until that morning. Meets are held rain or shine and only delayed or cancelled during thunderstorms. You will be contacted via email and updates will be posted on the web site if a meet or practice is cancelled.

Q: What is the volunteer requirement and what positions are available? A: Our swim team is run 100% by parent volunteers and we ask that EVERY family (at least one parent) pitch in to help our meets run smoothly and to ensure our swimmers have the support they need to swim their best. It takes all parents to run a home swim meet. There are numerous opportunities to help out. We need Event Round Up Tent volunteers, Timers, Heating Area Helpers, Runners, Ribbon Preparation, Set-Up and Tear-Down crew, just to mention a few. Most positions do NOT require any experience. A volunteer spot form will be sent the week before the meet with positions and items we need help with.
