April 7- 11

Boy's Soccer: The team bus will leave at 5:15 for tonight's game at McMinn County. 

Yearbook: Senior seminar teachers- please hand out senior quote sheets to students during seminar and turn in to Ms. Allen before the end of the day.

Guidance: If you have not turned in your 2014-15 pre-registration form, please bring it to the Guidance Dept. today.

Word of the Week: Portray- to illustrate, describe, or characterize.

March 24- 28

Beta: Senior Beta Club members- if you wish to purchase a Beta Club stole to wear at graduation, they are $17. Money is due Friday, March 28th. Pay cash or check to Mrs. Allen.

Europe Meeting: There will be a meeting for students traveling to Europe on Wednesday after school in Mrs. Roy's room.

Word of the Week: Conclude- to come to understand, to suppose, surmise, or theorize. "Based on the passage, what can you conclude about the author's attitude?"  

March 17- 21

Yearbook: Today is club picture day. Club sponsors, if you would like to be in your club's picture, please bring your class with you to the gym when your club is called.

Golf Team: There will be a brief golf team meeting after school on Thursday for anyone interested in playing golf next year.

LEAP: Mrs. Manning's tutoring will NOT meet today.

Seniors: Senior signature shirt sales will be extended until Friday, March 21st. See Mrs. Taylor if you still want to purchase a shirt for $12.

Seniors: Tiger Games permission forms must be turned in by 2:45 on Wednesday. They will be going to Hiwassee at that time.

Band: The band is taking donations to help with the cost of instruments and instrument repair. Donations will be accepted through the end of the day on Tuesday, March 25th. Those making a donation may be selected to receive a free pair of Ray Bans sunglasses.

SADD: Junior and senior seminar teachers- a link for the mock wreck video has been emailed to you. Please have this ready to go at the beginning of seminar. There will not be 20 minute reading time for juniors and seniors only.  

Word of the Week: Parallel- alongside, in the same direction, co extending. "Parallel can describe two line segments or two story plots that never meet."

March 10- 14

Blood Drive: The blood drive will be Tuesday, March 11th. You have to be sixteen with parental consent to donate. Donation slips can be picked up in the clinic and must be returned by Monday, March 10th.

Yearbook: You can pre-order 2013-2014 yearbooks starting on March 10th. Yearbooks may be ordered before or after school in Ms. Allen's room. Yearbooks are $70 and can be paid with cash of check.

March 3- 7

Guidance: The registration deadline for the April 12th ACT is March 7th. Also, do not forget to upload your photo. Your registration is not complete until you do so.

Educational Talent Search: Juniors who plan to attend the Educational Talent Search Junior Journey during Spring break must have permission slips turned in by lunch time on Friday, March 14th. Please give those to Mrs. Ferguson on Tuesday during lunch or to Mrs. Miller in the office.

February 24- 28

Prom: Prom tickets are $50 each. See Mr. Bibee while there is still time to get them. Ticket sells end Thursday, March 6th. This year's prom will be at the IMAX theater in Chattanooga. 

Basketball Players & Cheerleaders: Basketball Banquet is Thursday, March 6th. All players and cheerleaders must pick up your registration forms from your coach. Please return your forms to the main office by Feb. 28th. Players and cheerleaders are free, parents and guests cost $15.00 each.

February 10

Ms. Manning's Tutoring: Ms. Manning's morning and afternoon tutoring is cancelled.

ACT Prep: Freshmen and sophomore students involved in the ACT program will need to bring their ACT prep book, the practice science test, paper, and pencil to this week's session.

Faculty: Faculty meeting on Wednesday, February 5th. You may choose either the AM or PM session.

SADD: Mandatory SADD club meeting on Wednesday, February 5th at 3 pm.

January 16

-Student Council: It's homecoming week! Dress up days are as follows: Monday- Character Day. Tuesday- Tacky tourist day. Wednesday- Duck Dynasty day. Thursday- Blue and gold day. Also, canned food drive. Drop off locations are 9th Gaston, 10th Kyle, 11th Lowe, 12th Hackney.

-Guidance: Blue and gold cards are ready to be picked up in the guidance department. A list of the recipients is posted outside the guidance department. 

-FCA: Morning devotions every Friday morning at 7:30 in Mr. Hackney's room. Everyone is invited! 

-Senior Lip-Sync: All seniors participating in the lip-sync need to come to Mr. Hackney's room between 2nd and 8th to preform their skit. 

January 14

-Guidance: All freshmen and sophomores participating in the ACT prep tutoring program, your letter of participation agreement is due to Mrs. Murphy by Jan. 16th at 3 p.m. 

-Thursday, January 16th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Darlene White will help with FAFSA completion. Sign up in guidance. 

-Beta: New Best Club members please pick up your membership card and certificate in Ms. Allen's room before or after school.

-Word of the Week: Magnitude- Importance, significance, effect. There is no good way to measure the magnitude of cyberbulling.

January 10

-Guidance: Juniors and Seniors can participate in the ASVAB program on Thursday, February 13th, it's FREE! Sign up in the Guidance Department.

-SHS Softball: meeting in Coach Walkers class Monday January 13th after school. All players are required to attend this meeting.

-Yearbook: Seniors: Cap and gown pictures are in, come by the office after school to pick them up.

-Cafeteria: students can now pay on their lunch accounts online at mypaymentsplus.com

-Prom: you can now buy prom tickets from Mr. Bibee. One is $40 or two for $75.

-Football: any student wanting to play football, winter workouts will begin Monday Jan. 13th at 3:00 p.m.

December 13

-Cafeteria: Students who owe money to the cafeteria need to get their charges paid before Christmas break. You can apply for free or reduced lunch and if approved your charges can be waived. Pick up applications in the office or cafeteria. This needs to be done immediately.

-SADD: Congratulations to Ivy Torbett for being selected to participate on the S.A.D.D  leadership council for the state of Tennessee.

-Football: Any student wanting to play for the next season, winter workouts begin on Wednesday after Christmas Break.

December 11

-Key Club: All members need to meet Tuesday and Wednesday to help with back packs for kids immediately after school in Mr. Thompson's room. 

December 9

-FBLA: All FBLA members need to meet in Mr. Bibee's room immediately after school on Monday.

-SADD Club: SADD Club members, we will be wrapping Christmas gifts after school on Tuesday December 10th in Ms. Allen's room. Refreshments will be provided.

-SHS Wildcat Club: The SHS Wildcat Club would like to thank our Student body, Faculty and Staff for your participation in our Coats For The Cold and Hooked on Books Drive.

-Word of the Week: Central Idea- theme, main idea, central message, topic. "Write an essay comparing how each author addresses the same central idea.

-Safety: A seat belt check was done yesterday and there was several drivers and passengers not wearing a seat belt. Using your seat belt is not an option and it can save you from more than just getting a ticket!

November 20

-SHS Wildcat Club: all members plan to meet with Mrs. Miller Thursday 7:30 A.M. (This will be a work session!)

-Golf Team: There will be a brief meeting Wednesday after school in Hackney's room (104)

-Word of the Week: Annotate- to comment or make up notes in order to explain a piece of text. "The questions are easier to answer if you annotate the text while you read.

-Key Club: meet Wednesday immediately after school in Mr. Thompson's room to help with Backpack for Kids and to discuss about the Christmas float.

-Boys Soccer: There will be a short mandatory meeting for all Senior boy soccer players after school today in Mr. Layman's room. There will also be a mandatory meeting for ALL boy soccer players on the soccer field after school on Thursday.  

November 11

-SHS Wildcat Club: continuing Coats For The Cold and Hooked on Books Drive through December 6th.

-Word Of The Week: Synthesize- to combine or put together to form something new. "The group will synthesize their ideas in order to complete the project."


November 8

-Beta: New Beta Club member your $15 need to be turned in to Ms. Allen by this Friday 3 pm.

-SADD: Congratulations to poster contest participants 3rd place-Jessica Owings, 2nd place-Cheyenne Walker, 1st place-Julie Ngo. Please stop by Ms. Allen's room to collect your prize.

November 4

-SHS Wildcat Club: Coats for the Cold and Hooked on Books Drive is here! You can participate by bringing in a new or used coat or book. Coats can be dropped off in Mrs. Miller's room (113) and Books drop off is across the office.

-Word of the Week: Cite- to show evidence, to make note of, to refer to. "Cite strong and thorough evidence from the text to support your analysis."

October 30

-All Students: Tickets for the Friday night football game against Sequoyah will be sold in the cafeteria for $5.

-Fishing Team: Any student interested in joining the Fishing club will need to meet in the library on Thursday immediately following school. This will be a brief meeting and you will receive a questionnaire to be returned later.

-Key Club: Members meet in Mr. Thompson's room today immediately after school to help with back pack for kids.

-SQBC: The Quarterback Club will be selling T-shirts all week during lunch,for the Sequoyah game this Friday night, Long-sleeved are $15 and short-sleeved are $10. Limited supply so get yours quickly!

-Word Of The Week: Propose-to suggest or present as a solution, recommend. "As a group you will read the articles and then prosose a solution to the problem."

October 25

-Admin: Students the dungeon area is to be used by students assigned to in-school. If you are found in that area and are not serving in-school you will be considered out of area and subject to a search.

-SADD: SADD Club members please stop by Ms. Allen's room after school Thursday and Friday.

-ACT: Reminder for all ACT students, you must have the ACT registration and a valid form of ID for tomorrow's test.

-SADD/Guidance: In support of National Bullying Prevention Month, SADD Club is joining with Coordinated School Health and asking you to sign the "Stop Bullying" banner in the cafeteria during lunch beginning Monday the 28th, through Wednesday the 30th.

October 23

-Cafeteria: Friday October 25th is pink day at all county schools. Wear your pink to show SHS supports the fight against cancer. Also we will have Dominoes pizza on Thurs. instead of Friday this week.

-Beta Club: If you would like to apply for membership w/ beta club, the deadline has been extended to Friday October 25th by 8 am. Students must be in 11th or 12th grade with a 90 cumulative avg.

-Key Club:Key Club members are to meet in Mr. Thompson's room to help w/ back pack for kids immediately after school today.

-SADD: Teachers remember to fill out the Red Ribbon Week form and put your name on it before releasing students for chaos.

-Wildcat Club: All members are to meet in Mrs. Miller's Room tomorrow morning at 7:30. This is a working session.

-Cross Country: Congratulations to the cross country boys team for making it to State Championship in Nashville. They will be competing Saturday November 2nd.  All seven of the varsity boys made it in the top 20. For the girls race, Kayla Conner was 6th making her qualified to go on to the state championship. 


October 21

-Ms. Manning's Tutoring: afternoon tutoring is canceled Monday and Tuesday

-Golf Team: All students who want to play golf next year need to meet in Mr. Hackney's room (104) on Wednesday after school. 

-Word Of The Week: Complex- having many parts or aspects that are usually interrelated. "The teacher explained the complex concept so the students better understand."

October 18

-SADD: SADD is supporting a poster contest for National Bullying Prevention month. Winner will receive a $50 cash prize. See Ms. Allen for details and rules.

-Yearbook: Teachers you will be called to take your seminar to the gym during seminar today. Senior make ups will be during 6th period. Please wait until you are called.

October 16

-Yearbook: Teachers and underclassmen will have picture day this Friday during seminar. Senior make ups will be held that day too. Seniors bring a $25 "sitting fee" either cash or check. If you have any questions see Ms. Allen.

-Key Club: meet to help with backpack for kids in Mr. Thompson's room immediately after school.

-School Health: Monroe County Health Council has partnered with Coordinated School Health on Bullying prevention. Selling "Stop Bullying" t-shirts, and asking that you wear them on October 30th if you purchase it. Orders are due October 16th. Red ones are $10 and blue ones are $15.

-Guidance: Please dismiss students registered for the PSAT following morning announcements to room #210. A list of registered students was emailed to the teachers. Students should bring #2 pencils and a calculator with them to the testing room.

-PLC: there will be a Promethean PLC this Thursday from 3:00-4:00 in Ms. Manning's room. 

October 14

-Football: J.V. game scheduled for today at Greenback has been canceled. All football players need to report to field house immediately after school.

-SHS Wildcat Club: all members please make plans to meet with Mrs. Miller Thursday morning at 7:30 am in her classroom.

-Scholar's Bowl Team: will meet in Mr. Lowe's room Tuesday afternoon for a brief meeting.

October 4

-Cross Country: Congratulations to the SHS Boys’ Cross Country Team who placed 10th out of 31 teams at their meet in Dayton. Individually, Will Vineyard was 22nd out of 215 runners, with a time of 18:22.

-Ms. Manning Tutoring: Ms. Manning's afternoon tutoring is cancelled today.

October 2

-Key Club: those who can stay after school Tuesday and Wednesday to help with backpack for kids meet in Mr. Thompson's room immediately after school on those days.

-FBLA: All dues must be paid to Mrs. Brown in Room 105 by Friday afternoon

-Teachers: Reminder to meet in the conference room during your planning periods on Tuesday October 1st and Wednesday October 2nd.

-Guidance: Attention Sophomores! The PLAN will be administered to all students who are classified as 10th graders and in their second year of high school on Wednesday, October 2nd. Taking the PLAN is a great way to prepare for the ACT. It covers the same subjects and gives you an estimated ACT score.

-Yearbook: Yearbooks will be handed out Monday after school in Ms. Allen's room. If you owe money, it MUST be paid before you pick up.

September 26

-Key Club: All Key Club member, plan to meet with Mr. Thompson immediately after school on Thursday in his room.

September 23

-SHS Wildcat Club: Any student that has completed an application to join the club and have paid their $3 fee by Sept. 30th your name will be entered in a drawing to receive a free pizza. See Mrs. Miller for more details.

-Ms. Manning Tutoring: Ms. Manning will not be tutoring this week.

-Guidance: Attention Seniors! College App week is Sep. 30th- Oct. 4th. During this week ALL seniors are encouraged to fill out at least one college application. Computers will be set up in library throughout the week. See Mrs. Taylor to sign up for an appointment time. Every senior that signs up will be entered in a prize drawing. See guidance for more information about this week.

-PLC: Teachers, there will be a website design PLC in Mrs. Cleveland's room on September 24th from 3:00-3:45.

September 20

-Social Studies: Constitution week winners: Dress up- Jared Grayson, Essay- Emily Fritts, and Multimedia- Colton Sledge. Prizes will be handed out on Monday.

-FCA: FCA will sponsor "See ya at the Pole", Wednesday Sep. 25th, outside at the flag pole. We will start at 7:30 that morning. 

September 18

-Key Club: Members who can stay after school today to help with backpack for kids, meet in Mr. Thompson's room immediately after school.

-Guidance: Today during seminar Freshman will be attending Club Fair in the Gym.

-SHS Wildcat Club: Any student interested in joining the SHS Wildcat Club, for $3, see Mrs. Miller in room 113 for an application. Freshmen can join during Club Fair on Wednesday. 

-LEAP Tutoring: Ms. Manning is tutoring for LEAP on Monday through Friday 7-7:45 am and Mon, Wed, Fri from 3-5 pm. If you need an application see Ms. Manning or another LEAP tutor.

Cat Club: Field Trip Permission packet must be turned in tomorrow after the first Cat Club field trip. 


September 16

-Social Studies: ALL students are invited to participate in constitution week this week. Prizes will go to the winners of Wednesday's dress up day and the essay and multimedia contest. See any Social Studies teacher for more information.

September 13

-Students: Student tickets for the homecoming football game will be sold during lunch for $5 each.

-LEAP: LEAP after school tutoring will begin Monday, September the 16th. Applications are available from LEAP tutors or from the Guidance Department.

-FB Cheer: There will be a dance in the cafeteria after the football game Friday night until 11:30. Dress Code will be enforced. Admission is $5.

September 11

-Word of the week: Analyze- to divide a complex whole into parts. "The class will analyze the plot of the novel."

-Stick it to Cancer: You can purchase duct tape during lunch or from Mrs. Murphy during class change, which will be used to tape Coach Lowe to a pole at the pep rally Thursday evening. $1.00 buys a 12 inch piece of duct tape. 

-PLCs: Mrs. Cleveland's website design PLC has been moved from this Tuesday to Thursday 3:00-3:45. Ipads will be provided.

-FCA: Will be collecting memberships fees all week. See Coach Anderson to pay your fee of $5.

-Quarterback Club: Support Cancer Awareness and your Quarterback Club by purchasing a Gold t-shirt to wear this week for the "Gold-Out" Shirts are being sold during all lunches or you can see Mrs. Taylor after school to purchase your shirt for $10.

-Senior Pictures: To the students who have already received their senior pictures you have until Friday September 20th to return orders and payments to school. Second set of pictures are here, come to the office to pick them up!  

-SADD: SADD Club members, you may pick up your membership cards in Ms. Allen's room.

-Key Club: Students who signed up for Key Club last week stop by Mr. Thompson's room today for some important information. Still looking for new members, stop by and sign up today!

September 6

-SADD: If you are interested in SADD but could not attend yesterday's meeting, stop by Ms. Allen's room today to register. 

-Guidance: Seniors turn your field trip permission slips for the TWC College fair are due Monday September 9th no later than 11am. Turn them into your English teacher or guidance. Students not meeting this deadline will not be allowed to attend.

-FBLA: Anyone wanting to join FBLA needs to see Mr.Bibee or Mrs.Brown THIS WEEK.

-Softball: There will be a softball meeting Friday after school in Coach Walkers room. ALL players need to attend.

-Student Council: Next week is Homecoming! Monday: Color Clash (Sr.- black, Jr.- white, Soph.-Gray, and Fresh.-Orange) Tuesday: College Day (wear your favorite college apparel.) Wednesday: Fake an injury day, Thursday: Occupation Day and Friday: Blue and Gold Day. YOU STILL MUST BE IN DRESS CODE.

-Golf Team: Congratulations to the golf team for shooting their lowest aggregate score of the year with a 211.

-Beta Club: Juniors and Seniors who have a 90 or above cumulative average and wish to join the National Beta Club, see Ms. Shadden for an application and turn it in by Friday September 13th. If you joined last year you do not need to join again.

September 4

-Library: Teachers and students! Thursday is the last day for the Fall Bookfair and we have NOT met our GOAL for sales yet!Get your shopping done between today 3:00pm or tomorrow until 5:00pm. There are books for ALL AGES!

-Word of the week: accelerate- to increase speed or timing. Used in a sentence: "Runners often accelerate when they get close to the finish line.

-Key Club: students interested in joining key club meet immediately after school on Wednesday. Freshman are encouraged to join!

-Guidance: Volunteers are needed for the Fantasy of Trees. See Pam Phelps in guidance to volunteer. It begins November 27th and ends December 1st.

-Student Council: Money Drive to support childhood cancer. Money will be collected September 4th-11th. Freshman drop off- Mrs. Gaston. Sophomore drop off- Ms. Kyle. Junior drop off- Mrs. Cleveland. Senior drop off- Mr. Bibee. In addition to being awarded homecoming points the class who raises the most money will also win the opportunity to have their designated teacher sing karaoke in front of the school!!

-Sophomore Class: Applications for Sophomore class officers are due to Ms. Russel by the end of the day on Wednesday.

August 30

-Library: On Family Night the Book-fair will be open from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday night.

-Seniors: TWC College fair is on September 10th. You must have your permission slip turned in no later than September 9th by 11 a.m. or you will not be able to attend.

-Football season tickets for all games are available in the office for $25 each. Also student tickets will be sold during lunch for every home game for $5.

-Driver Training: Must check in with Study Hall teacher prior to meeting with Mr. Ridenour to drive or ride with their group.

-Seniors: Your Senior proofs have arrived! Please come by the school office to pick yours up.

-Library: Book-fair in the Library…All students will have the opportunity to come during their English class.

-For any student interested in going on the Europe trip in June 2014, there will be a parent meeting on Thursday, August 29th, at 6:00 pm in Mrs. Roy's room(208). Please see Mrs. Roy if you have any questions.

-Cafeteria: The cafeteria will be selling Domino’s Pizza, Thursday, August 22nd at all four lunches. The price is $1.25 per slice or $10.00 for a whole pizza. You cannot charge pizza, so bring your money please.


August 19

-National Muscadine Festival: The National Muscadine Pageant is open to all high school age girls. It is Saturday, Sept. 14th and offers a $500 scholarship. Please visit City Hall or Mr. Bibee for more information.

-SADD Club: If you are interested in joining the SADD Club please see Ms. Allen. All grades are invited.

-Library: Students may check out books from the library between classes and before/after school.

-Word of the week: Sequence - succession, series, posteriority - The students put the sentences in the correct sequence.

August 16

-Focus Group will resume on August 19th. All sophomores and juniors who attended last year are eligible.

-Jamboree tickets will be sold during all lunches this Thursday and Friday for $5 each.
