Zoom into Engineering

Feb 11, 2012 from 9-4 p.m. at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History

Children of all ages will enjoy engineering with a day of fun activities designed to help them develop strong science process skills, just like engineers do on a daily basis.

Location: 601 Eubank Blvd SE, Albuquerque NM 87123
Website: http://nuclearmuseum.org/
Topic: In our activity, we will be making goop/slime and discussing what solids, liquids, and polymers are.
Lead - Nalin Andersen
Need 4-6 volunteers, ideally 2 people to cover at all times for the duration of the event

Contact Nalin at nalinandersen@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer.

Central New Mexico Science & Engineering Research Challenge
March 16, 2012 from 12-3:30pm

At least 15 years ago, SWE-CNM established a special award for students in the Central NM Science & Engineering Research Challenge (CNMSERC) (formerly the Northwest New Mexico Regional Science Fair).  The award consists of a $100 savings bond awarded “for an exhibit in Junior Engineering, Physics & Astronomy, Computer Science, or Energy & Transportation”.

SWE awards two savings bonds (two awards) for projects in the Junior Division (grades 6-8).  SWE-CNM provides the judges, and the winners are chosen by the SWE judges based on the following criteria: knowledge, engineering approach, practical application, and general performance.

Contact Vanessa at vanessa.m.looper@intel.com if you'd like to volunteer.

Saturday, April 21, 2012
This event is a Girl Scout run event.  We will be leading two hour-long sessions, one for 4th and 5th graders, and a second for 6th and 12th graders.  For the younger students, volunteers will be sharing a bit of information about what type of engineer they are and where they work followed by an activity to make "goop."  For the older students, volunteers will be sharing what type of engineer they are and a bit of information about what they do as an engineer followed by an activity to understand how make-up relates to chemical engineering.  More information will be provided as the date of the event nears.  Contact Natalie (villwockwitte@gmail.com) for more information and to indicate your willingness to volunteer.
