At that time there were a hundred cottages along the road between Five Turnings and Lower Sticker, mostly occupied by miners working in the adjacent mines. Around 1830, as the farmhouse was too small, the members built a cob-walled Bible Christian chapel at the entrance to Penstrassoe barton. A schoolroom was added in 1836. A new, more substantial chapel was opened in September 1860 about 200 metres away on the other side of the road; the old chapel continued to be used as a Sunday School until 1871, when new Sunday School premises were built adjacent to the 1860 chapel.
