No time for your health today, no health for your time tomorrow. Proverb

I fished in small boats around the prison property, 30 yards offshore, as a kid for years.  … I grew up smelling the richness of low tide, kelp and sand drying in the sun.  … The sea feeds you, gives you a good love.  … It’s a real and healthy way to live, but sometimes its power is beyond the control of humans.  …  It can freeze you, drown you, or smash you to pulp on its rocks.  Flesh and bone or reinforced steel hull, it does not differentiate; it just takes. There are people who strictly deprive themselves of each and every eatable, drinkable and smokable which has in any way acquired a shady reputation. They pay this price for health. And health is all they get for it. How strange it is. It is like paying out your whole fortune for a cow that has gone dry. Mark Twain

Chronic disease, like a troublesome relative, is something you can learn to manage but never quite escape. Mary Tyler Moore

That which is necessary for the health of one individual is the cause of disease in another. Nietzsche

Thus, in a 2011 Mother’s Day letter, Ms. Quirke’s 16-year-old son wrote: “I'm so happy to see you losing weight, because you are now a happier person, and that makes me happy. Every time I see you on TV it makes me grateful to have such a great teacher in you, but also a great friend.” Quote source: Where have I Gone? by Pauline Quirke

Sleep, riches, and health, to be truly enjoyed, must be interrupted. Jean Paul Richter

Certain old men prefer to rise at dawn, taking a cold bath and a long walk with an empty stomach and otherwise mortifying the flesh. They then point with pride to these practices as the cause of their sturdy health and ripe years; the truth being that they are hearty and old, not because of their habits, but in spite of them. The reason we find only robust persons doing this thing is that it has killed all the others who have tried it. Ambrose Bierce

It’s simple; if you eat fat you get fat. Marlon Brando

In her memoir, actress Sue Johnston recounts the beginnings of her bulimia: I had some notion in my head about the fact that the Romans had vomitoriums, where they would purge themselves after gorging on food.  The Romans were a civilized bunch, I reasoned, so surely they knew what they were doing. ... It was all so tied up with my emotion and the depths of my subconscious that I wasn't sure what I was really dealing with. Source: Things I couldn't tell my mother by Sue Johnston

In her memoir, actress Diane Keaton recounts on dieting, a pivotal benefit of her psycho-analysis:
“After another year of throwing up, intermittent joblessness and learning how to talk to the ceiling with my back on a couch, I finally blurted out, “I stick my finger down my throat three times a day and throw up. I've been throwing up for years. I’m bulimic, OK? I have no intention of stopping ever. Why would I? I don't want to; get it? “I’m not stopping-that’s it. End of discussion. And nothing you say will ever convince me to change.”  Somehow, six months later, Ms. Keaton overcame her urge to gorge and then force herself to vomit. One morning, after opening her freezer, she refrained from eating one of her favorite kinds of ice cream. She explains, “I don't know why. I know one thing though. …It was the talking cure, that gave me a way out of addiction.”  Quote sourced from: Then Again by Diane Keaton

A healthy ear can stand hearing sick words. Proverb

Sickness is poor-spirited, and cannot serve anyone; it must husband its resources to live. But health or fullness answers its own ends, and has to spare, runs over, and inundates the neighborhoods and creeks of other men's necessities. Emerson

We forget ourselves and our destinies in health, and the chief use of temporary sickness is to remind us of these concerns. Emerson

Exercise guru Jack Lalanne was once asked during a television interview whether he sometimes did not wish to undertake his daily regime. He answered, “I never feel like it, but afterwards I look in the mirror and tell myself you did it again”. In his seventies Lalanne said at his most recent medical check-up he was told his body was as fit as that of a man of twenty nine.

None of us are big-boned or just built that way: the simple truth is that we eat and drink too much of the wrong things and don't do enough exercise. I don't plan on being on a diet for the rest of my life. I don't plan on denying myself the pleasures in life. I plan on, for once, being honest with myself when I look in the mirror and changing my life for the better forever. Today’s the day I stop making excuses.

Dinner began with a bucket of KFC, several orders of French fries with blue cheese and cat-sup, and a couple of TV dinners. For dessert it was chocolate-covered almonds with a quart of 7-up. A pound of peanut brittle, M&Ms washed down with mango juice, 1 pound cake and 3 banana cream pies. I learned to throw up so fast there was no effect. Quote from: Then Again by Diane Keaton

Health and diet center upon the in-take, in solid and liquid form, of the means of subsistence. For the most part, even the thinnest among us when young, eventually reach a point where they must weigh our choices in terms of their caloric content and balanced diet. Still, it is doable to enjoy a nutritional while fulfilling meal plan-with the occasional gourmet meal to binge on and anticipate.
