Shades Valley High School Invitational Tournament

December 1, 2012 7:00 am 3:00 pm General Information

  • All Middle School teams must register (submit completed registration packet) between 7:00 and 7:40 am on December 1, 2012. There will be a Middle School Coaches Meeting in the Auditorium at 7:45.  The middle school tournament will begin at 8:00.

  • All High School teams must register (submit completed registration packet) between 8:00 and 8:40 am on December 1, 2012. There will be a High School Coaches Meeting in the Auditorium at 8:45.  The high school tournament will begin at 9:00.

  • Each competing school will be assigned a location in the cafeteria as a designated site for the team to congregate and study for the competitions.  An adult supervisor should be in this area at all times.

  • The concession stand will be open from 6:45 am until 12:30pm.

  • All Science Olympiad events that take place in a classroom or laboratory are off limits to all observers.  However, events that take place in the gymnasiums may be observed by teachers, chaperones, coaches, and students as long as they stay out of the way as designated by the event supervisor.

  • Event supervisors must bring all the materials that will be needed for the competition and adhere to the listed schedule.

  • Each event supervisor should bring a blank copy of the test, answer sheet and answer key for each of the participating schools in addition to the copies needed for the actual competition. (The extra copies will be collected at registration and divided into envelopes for each team to take home; these envelopes will not be distributed until all events are completed.)

  • After your event, make certain that the room is in the same condition as when you arrived.

  • Event supervisors are asked to score their events as quickly as possible and place the scores on the appropriate score sheets.  There are to be no ties.  As soon as the event is scored, take the score sheets and completed tests to headquarters in Mrs. Garrison’s room #418 on the fourth floor so that they may be appropriately logged and the winning teams determined.

  • At the conclusion of the tournament each team will be provided with their tests and score sheets and a blank copy of the test and answer key for each event.

  • If an aspect of the competition is in dispute all attempts should be made to resolve the issue by the coach and the event supervisor.  If that fails then the team coach should complete an appeal form and submit it to the arbitration committee in the scoring room (#418).

  • Please ask your students to pick up trash, rearrange chairs and tables in the fashion that they were found.  You will receive a trash bag at registration.

  • All teams must have their area of the cafeteria cleaned up and have all materials removed from the area before proceeding to the auditorium for awards.  The cafeteria will not be accessible after the awards ceremony.

  • The individual medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each event; ribbons will be presented for 4th-6th.   Students will come onto the stage to receive awards after their team name is announced. Students should remain on the stage until all awards for that event have been announced.  Only competitive teams will be eligible for awards.

  • Team awards will be given to the top six competitive teams.  When the team awards are announced, the entire team along with the coach(es) are to come forward as a group to accept the trophy.

  • The regional tournament rules will be used at this invitational tournament.
