Susan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. She is also an affiliate at the Monash Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability as well as Indonesia Project at the Australian National University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. Her research interests include development economics, applied econometrics, spatial econometrics and geographic information systems (GIS). Prior joining Waikato, Susan was the Australian Research Council DECRA Research Fellow in the Econometrics and Business Statistics Department at Monash University. She has previously taught at the University of Melbourne and Monash University, and has worked as a consultant to the World Bank.
