What a great finish to a wonderful tournament and a great week of golf starting with the Mixed Foursomes on Sunday followed by the 54 Hole Stroke Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Well done to all the Surfers girls and members who played in the tournament over the 4 days. A special mention to the 6 girls that were seeded in the top 8 in the final round. They were Andrea Davis & Deanne Hill (Women's Division), Marianne Ioannou, Virginia Oxenford, & Jude Eastway (Senior's Division) and Jan Sugg (Super Senior's Division). Congratulations to Andrea Davis for taking out the Best Gross in Women's Division with rounds of 82, 81 and 90 for a total of 253, 17 shots ahead of her rival Dianne Benghamy! Congratulations also to Annette Gatland on winning the Best Nett in Super Senior's Division with rounds of 76, 79, 76 for a total of 231 and Deanne Hill on Nett Runner Up in the Women's Division with rounds of 77, 81, 81 (239). A great effort girls!

Congratulations to the winner of the Classic Division, Rhianna Lewis from Pelican Waters with rounds of 67, 73 and 76 for a total of 216 and winning on the 3rd hole (9th) of the sudden death play-off against Gayeon (Chloe) Nam of Sanctuary Cove with a 2 meter birdie putt! A very exciting finish!!!

It was wonderful to have representatives from Golf Australia, Michele Stanley, and Women’s Golf Gold Coast, President Tamara Dunn and Secretary Donna Bett attend the presentation on Wednesday. The South Pacific Ladies Open Classic Committee would like to thank Surfers Paradise Golf Club, all the sponsors, volunteers and players for supporting this event this year. DAY 1 of the South Pacific Ladies Open Classic

Teenager Rhianna Lewis from Pelican Waters +2 leads the 49th South Pacific Ladies Open Classic with a scorching 5 under 67. Celine Chen from Joondalup Country Club WA is hot on her heels with a 69 followed by Gayeon (Chloe) Nam (Sanctuary Cove) on 68 and Shyla Singh (Southport Golf Club) close by on 70. The weather was perfect for a day of golf with the course looking great.

DAY 2 of the South Pacific Ladies Open Classic

Beautiful weather for the 2nd round of the South Pacific Ladies Open Classic at Surfers Paradise Golf Club. Some of the pins were in difficult positions and challenging golf. Rhianna Lewis from Pelican Waters on 140 holds the lead, playing beautiful golf, landing 3 birdies on Day 2 and 7 birdies on Day 1. Rhianna is closely followed by Gayeon (Chloe) Nam from Ankgolf (Sanctuary Cove) on 142 who scored an eagle and 2 birdies, followed by Shyla Singh from Southport Golf Club on 144 and Celine Chen from Joondalup Country Club WA on 145.

DAY 3 of the South Pacific Ladies Open Classic

The 49th South Pacific Ladies Open Classic held at Surfers Paradise Golf Club produced an exciting finish after 54 holes with Rhianna Lewis of Pelican Waters and Gayeon (Chloe) Nam from Sanctuary Cove both finishing with 216 and a playoff over 3 holes. Both girls played beautiful golf with Rhianna sinking a 2 meter birdie putt on the 3rd playoff hole to take out the Classic. Rhianna also took out Best Round of the Tournament with a Gross 67 on Day 1.

The 49th South Pacific Ladies Open Classic tee'd off on Sunday 11th July with the Mixed Foursomes. A field of 186 turned out in fine golfing conditions. Winners of the Best Gross were Surfers Paradise Junior members Momo Sugiyama and Billy Dowling with a 69 Gross while runners-up, also SPGC members, were Andrea Davis & Taylor Barr with a 75 on a C/B. Winners of the Best Nett were our sponsors from Forkforce, Christine Johnson and Steven Cunliffe with a terrific score of 67 nett. Runners in for the Nett were also sponsors from Forkforce, Jacalyn and John Ashley. It was great to have our patron, Rachel Hetherington play on the day and say a few words. Well done to all the players on the day.

Golf Operations

As per direction from the Queensland Government golf is permitted with physical distancing observed. Pre-lockdown conditions now apply.

· 2 people sharing a cart, not from the same household must wear masks.

· Groups of 4 allowed- physical distancing observed.

· All members, guests and staff must wear face masks when indoors, which includes inside the clubhouse and golf shop.

· Do not take bookings from residents in lockdown areas.

· A decision on flagsticks and bunker rakes is up to each club. The State Government advises heightened hygiene practices.

Face masks

Members and guests must carry and wear a face mask at all times when at the golf club, unless:

· they are playing golf (course, practice)

· they are eating or drinking

· They are alone outdoors or outdoors with members of your household.

There are some other exceptions to wearing face masks, including for children under 12 and people with particular medical conditions or disabilities. If in doubt, wear a face mask.


· You must be seated to eat and drink.

· 1 person per 4sqm inside and 1 person per 2sqm outside

· Venues up to 200sqm are allowed 1 person per 2sqm, max.50 people.

· Up to 200 people for weddings, max 20 dancing at a time.

After 4 rounds of Fourball Matchplay and a very tough final match, the winners with a result of 1 up at the 18th hole were Therese Blair and Sue Absell-Hagan.
