Crocheted Large Sea Horse Appliqué

MATERIALS:

Size 10 Knit-Cro-Sheen in assorted colors (one ball of thread will make several appliqué’s), #7 steel crochet hook, thread or fabric glue for attaching the appliqué' to whatever you want it on.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

EYE AREA:

Rnd 1: Ch 6, join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with a sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st to first sc. [20 sc]

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same st (2 hdc counting first ch 2), 2 dc in next st, 2 tr in each of next 12 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, 2 dc in next st, 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, join with a sl st to top of first ch 2. [40 sts]

NOSE AREA: NOTE: WORK IN ROWS FROM HERE:

Row 4: Ch 3, (first dc), turn, 1 dc in next 6 sts. [7 dc]

Row 5: Ch 3, turn, [1 dc dec over next 2 sts] twice (2 dc dec made), 1 dc in next st, sk last st.

Row 6: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, 1 sc dec over next 2 st, ch 1, work 3 sc evenly spaced back over side dc's to row 3. DO NOT TURN.

Row 7: Working on row 3 now; 1 sc back into row 3; 1 sc in each of next 16 sts. [17 sc counting the sc back into row 3 from last row].

Row 8: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 2 st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 tr in each of next 6 sts.

Row 9: Ch 4 (first tr), turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in each of next 6 sts (7, 2-tr groups), 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st.

Row 10: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 tr in each of next 11 sts.

Row 11: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts (3, 2-tr groups), 1 tr in each of next 8 sts, 2 tr in each of next 4 sts. 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, sk last 11 sts.

Row 12: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 tr in each of next 14 sts, sk last st.

Row 13: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 11 sts (12 tr - counting ch 4), 2 tr in each of next 6 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, sk last 7 sts.

Row 14: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 tr in each of next 15 sts, sk last 2 sts.

Row 15: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 11 sts (12 tr - counting first ch 4), 2 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, sk last 10 sts.

Row 16: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of next 11 sts, sk last 3 sts.

Row 17: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 9 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts, sk last 10 sts.

Row 18: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in each of next 8 sts, sk last 4 sts.

Row 19: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 7 sts, sk last 4 sts.

Row 20: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts, sk last 2 sts.

Row 21: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, sk last 4 sts.

Row 22: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 5 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts.

Row 23: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts, sk last 4 sts.

Row 24: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 5 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts.

Row 25: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, [1 tr dec over next 2 sts] twice

Row 26: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts.

Row 27: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, sk next 4 sts.

Row 28: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts.

Row 29: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr dec over next 2 sts, sk last 4 sts.

Row 30: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts.

NOTE: YOU CAN CONTINUE FROM HERE FOR LONG TAIL, OR YOU CAN BREAK OFF HERE FOR SHORTER TAIL.

Row 31: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in next st, sk last 4 sts.

Row 32: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts.

Row 33: Rep row 31.

Row 34: Rep row 32. Break off.

HEAD FIN: ATTACH THREAD (ON WRONG SIDE, BY FIRST BACK FIN):

Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sc in each of next 16 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, ch 1, sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, sc in next st, ch 3, dc in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 dtr in next st, ch 4, sc in same st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, ch 4, 1 dtr in same st,

2 tr in each of next 2 sts. Break off.

LARGE BACK FIN: ATTACH THREAD (ON RIGHT SIDE, IN THIRD STITCH OF SMALL FIN, FROM HEAD, ON BACK):

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, ch 3, sc in hdc of next back fin.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in sc, ch 3, sk last ch 3 sp, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in last sc.

Row 3: Ch 3 (first dc), turn, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, ch 3, sk last ch 3 sp, 2 sc in last st.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, ch 3, sk last ch 3 sp, sc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, 2 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts. Break off.

AIR BUBBLES:

Large: Ch 10, join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 2 (first hdc), 19 hdc in ring, join to first hdc with a sl st. Break off.

Medium: Ch 8, join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 2, 15 hdc in ring, join to first hdc with a sl st. Break off.

Small: Ch 6, join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 2, 11 hdc in ring, join to first hdc with a sl st. Break off.
