Homemade Novelty Yarn

Copyright Susan Whitlock

Material: Whatever sort of threads you have on hand. I used two different colors (pink and white) sewing thread to make the pink yarn and (blue and white) sewing thread to make the blue yarn. You can add sequins or beads or other embellishments (string them on one or both of the threads that you are going to use first). I used a # 7 steel crochet hook for these. You can use yarns or material cut in strips (just use your imagination and whatever you can find). The main thing is to have fun!

Pink yarn: *Ch7, sc in the 7th ch from the hook*, 3 times; sl st in each of ch’s where sc was made; thread over and pull through all 4 threads on the hook; *ch 3 thread over and through 3rd ch from the hook, make hdc*, three times. Continue on this way until you have enough novelty yarn to make whatever you want.

Blue yarn: *Ch 2 hdc in the second ch from the hook*, cont. from * to * (vary how many hdc you make - some with 7 or 9 or 12 - then add a sequin. Continue on this way until you have enough novelty yarn to make whatever you want.
